Lithuania: Wagner army in Belarus to affect security situation

June 28, BPN. The Lithuanian foreign minister has said a Wagner Group camp near the NATO border would pose a challenge to Lithuania’s national security, amid reports that their leader has arrived in Belarus.

“The arrival of one man, Prigozhin, in Belarus does not affect the security situation. The arrival of his army would,” Gabrielius Landsbergis said, as quoted by LRT.

He said there are no credible reports of this happening, but it is possible that the Russian mercenaries will have a training base near Lithuania.

In any case, uncertainty in Russia is a threat to the Baltic country, he added.

On June 23, Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin called for an armed rebellion to oust the Russian defense minister.

He later halted the mutiny as a result of agreements reached with Alaksandr Łukašenka and other officials. Vladimir Putin let him go to Belarus, and his presence in the country was confirmed by the Belarusian strongman yesterday.
