Russia evacuates dozens of Belarusian workers from Iran’s nuclear power plant

April 15, Pozirk. Russia has evacuated 81 Belarusian nationals who worked at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant, Andrei Zhiltsov, the Russian consul general in Isfahan, told RIA Novosti.
The evacuees are believed to be Belarusians employed by Russian contractors, as the facility was built, operated and maintained by the state corporation Rosatom.
The evacuation of personnel from the Bushehr nuclear power plant took place amid the United States and Israeli war on Iran. The area around the facility came under attack three times in March and once in April. In the most recent incident, a shell struck near the plant’s perimeter fence, killing one person, according to Iranian authorities.
On February 28, Israel and the United States launched a joint military operation against Iran amid stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s longtime ruler Ali Khamenei was killed at his residence during the United States and Israeli strikes on February 28. Tehran retaliated by launching missiles and drones at Israel and other countries in the region.
