Ukraine’s region continues to reinforce border with Belarus – governor
June 21, BPN. Ukraine’s Rivne region continues to reinforce its northern border because of a potential attack threat from Belarus, Governor Vitaliy Koval has told Ukrinform.
“We equip anti-tank ditches, install surveillance cameras, and buy quadrocopters and off-road vehicles,” he said.
“All 229 kilometers of the common border are a combination of fortifications and natural barriers,” he added. “Swamps, rivers and forests make up 70 percent of the border and are impassable for any vehicle.”
In March, Koval said the region was building the second line of defenses at the border. “We build fortifications and engineering facilities every day. We dig the second line of anti-tank ditches and erect tetrahedra obstacles (special concrete structures),” he said.
