Cichanoŭskaja presents strategy to envoys in Strasbourg
June 20, BPN. Opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has presented a coordinated strategy on Belarus to ambassadors of the Council of Europe’s member states in Strasbourg, according to her aide.
The strategy calls for tighter sanctions on Alaksandr Łukašenka’s regime and for holding its members accountable for human rights violations and the crime of aggression.
“We must deprive Łukašenka of immunity and declare his regime criminal,” Cichanoŭskaja said. She emphasized the importance of aid to the Belarusian democratic forces and civil society.
She also called for a European future for Belarus.
In May, Cichanoŭskaja said she wanted the country to join the Council of Europe, a pan-European organization focused on human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
