Łukašenka: military prosecutors’ offices not needed, no urgency

November 2, Pozirk. It would be “too early” to re-establish military prosecutors’ offices because there is “no urgency,” Alaksandar Łukašenka has told security officials.

The remark came in response to the proposal by Prosecutor General Andrej Švied who argued that military prosecutors should become “an indispensable element of the national security system.”

Instead, Łukašenka suggested improving the law enforcement system, including in military units, his press office reported. The Prosecutor General’s Office should be in charge of it, training staff, setting tasks and strengthening inter-agency cooperation, he noted.

The Belarusian government disbanded military prosecutors’ offices in 2014, transferring their functions to civilian agencies.
