Łukašenka on upcoming elections: “Country and society should not be shaken”

July 28, BPN. Alaksandar Łukašenka has met with the upper house chairwoman in Minsk and demanded that the unrest that followed the 2020 presidential election not be repeated during the next campaign.

“On the one hand, there should be mobilization for us and the people. On the other hand, the country and society should not be shaken like before,” he told Natalla Kačanava, as quoted by his office.

He went on to say that Belarus faces a long electoral period with local elections next year and a presidential vote in 2025.

The past presidential election was not recognized as free or fair by democratic nations. It was followed by months of protests, and the government has cracked down on the demonstrators. Reprisals continue to this day.
