Minsk court bans news website of former political prisoner

July 25, BPN. A Minsk court has outlawed a website created by Volha Łojka, formerly a senior editor at a popular news portal and a political prisoner.

The information ministry said the judge labeled Plan B, its logo and social media as “extremist content” yesterday.

Plan B said it will continue to cover developments in Belarus. It called on readers not to follow its accounts, but to access its reports through Google News instead.

Last week, a court in the Homiel region made a similar decision regarding the Instagram page of Novy Čas, a newspaper with an unlicensed founder.

The government has banned hundreds of pages of online content. The recent additions include an association of political prisoners’ relatives, Belarusians living in the Lithuanian capital, and a blog about the Belarusian language.
