Belarus’ unemployment rate falls slightly in Q2

July 24, BPN. Belarus’ unemployment rate dropped slightly to 3.4 percent in the second quarter of 2023, down from 3.6 percent in the previous quarter, according to a regular household survey.

The National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said that 4.2 percent of men and 2.6 percent of women were out of work in the April-June period. Unemployment was higher in rural areas (4.3 percent) than in urban areas (3.2 percent).

Most of the unemployed relied on media, internet or friends to look for jobs, Belstat said.

Belarusian workforce employed in the economy totaled 4,150,700 people in May 2023, 1.5 percent less than one year earlier.
