Ukraine fortifies border with Belarus amid Wagner Group presence

July 20, BPN. Ukraine will reinforce parts of the border “with non-explosive and explosive barriers” as Wagner Group fighters are arriving in Belarus, Joint Forces Commander Serhiy Nayev said on Facebook yesterday.

Ukrainians are working to make the state border “completely impassable for enemy forces,” he said. In particular, they have dug more than 40 km of anti-tank trenches and laid more than 30,000 mine traps in the Chernihiv region.

Last week, Nayev said Russia was using Belarus as a supplier of arms and military hardware and an intelligence stronghold.

The Kremlin-linked private military contractor announced its relocation to Belarus in early July after a feud with the Russian defense ministry and a failed mutiny.
