General Macijevič promoted to first deputy chief of General Staff

July 18, BPN. Alaksander Łukašenka has promoted Major General Andrej Macijevič to first deputy chief of the General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces, the Belarusian leader’s press office reported.

Macijevič served as chief of the Territorial Defense Directorate and deputy chief of the General Staff prior to the promotion.

Belarus’ senior defense officials have been targeted by Western sanctions.

The European Union has imposed a travel ban and asset freezes on Viktar Hulievič, chief of the General Staff; and Deputy Defense Ministers Siarhiej Simanienka and Andrej Burdyka.
