Russia halts meat imports from two Belarusian plants over health concerns

July 17, BPN. Russia’s veterinary watchdog says it has “temporarily restricted” imports of meat products from two Belarusian plants over sanitary violations.

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision said it found excessive levels of bacteria in beef from the Žłobin Meat Processing and Packing Factory and a branch of the Homiel Regional Consumer Society in Žytkavičy.

The watchdog said products shipped before today have been accepted.

It also said it lifted restrictions on another Belarusian meat plant, Veles-Meat, last week, but will subject its products to “enhanced laboratory control.”

Similar monitoring will be applied to products from the Viciebsk and Kobryn meat packing plants, it added.
