July 16, BPN. A Belarusian opposition leader has visited sites honored by the Belarusian minority in Poland to emphasize the importance of preserving the ethnic identity, her aide told BPN yesterday.
Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja attended an Orthodox service and laid flowers at the cross commemorating the murdered residents of Zaleszany. Troops of Romuald Rajs, a controversial Polish fighter, killed dozens of Orthodox Belarusians in the village in 1946.
She visited an Orthodox convent and other significant sites in eastern Poland. Cichanoŭskaja also opened the Belarusian festival Tutaka in the village of Gródek.
