Activist Daškievič taken to detention center in Žodzina
July 13, BPN. Guards have taken activist Źmicier Daškievič to a detention center in Žodzina, Minsk region, after law enforcers rearrested him when he was formally freed from a penal colony two days ago, his wife Nasta Daškievič has said.
“I do not know why we should suffer any longer,” she said. “Why deprive four children of their father?”
According to her, Źmicier has been charged with defying the penal colony administration’s orders and may face up to one year in prison.
A Minsk judge sentenced him to 18 months in prison and his wife to three years of restricted freedom, a form of home confinement, in July 2022 for allegedly taking part in a demonstration against electoral fraud two years earlier.
That was the third politically-motivated jail term for Źmicier Daškievič, a former head of the Małady Front patriotic youth organization, according to human rights groups. Nasta Daškievič gave birth to their fourth child while the activist was in pre-trial detention.
