Łukašenka scolds regional officials for “unsightly state” of industrial sites
July 10, BPN. Alaksandar Łukašenka has instructed the Mahiloŭ region’s officials to “sort everything out and bring it into compliance within a year,” citing occasional disorder and “unsightly state” of production areas and construction sites.
“You are ruining yourselves with this mess,” he said visiting the Mogilevliftmash elevator factory, as quoted by his press office.
Anatol Isačanka, chairman of the regional executive committee, reported to Łukašenka that the region’s GDP shrank by 1.4 percent from January to May year on year.
“There are three failures in your region. The most amazing thing is that your industry is failing,” Łukašenka told him.
Speaking about investment projects, the Belarusian strongman said that each region should earn its own money and that there is “almost no” shortage of workers.
According to the Belstat statistics service, Belarusian workforce employed in the economy totaled 4,150,700 people in May 2023, 1.5 percent less than one year earlier.
