Poland moving over 1,000 troops to border with Belarus

July 8, BPN. Poland is starting to move more than 1,000 troops and nearly 200 pieces of equipment from the 12th and 17th Mechanized Brigades to the east of the country, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak has tweeted.

The move shows Poland’s readiness to respond to destabilization attempts near its borders, the official said.

Recently, Poland’s leadership has repeatedly warned about threats emanating from Belarus citing Russian nuclear plans, the potential arrival of Russian mercenaries, Minsk’s role in Russia’s war on Ukraine, and the ongoing illegal migration crisis.

On July 7, presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland wrote a joint letter to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urging the bloc to take action to counter threats from Russia and Belarus.
