Transport Minister Aŭramienka dies aged 46

July 5, BPN. Alaksiej Aŭramienka, minister of transport and communications, has died aged 46, the ministry’s press office reported.

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

A native of Minsk, Aŭramienka held degrees from Belarusian State Polytechnic Academy and the Academy of Management.

From 2006 to 2013, he held various positions at the government’s Department of Transport, Communication and Informatization. In 2019, Aŭramienka was appointed transport minister after serving three years as first deputy minister.

His tenure was marred by politically-motivated reprisals against transport workers, including Belarusian Railways and Minsk subway employees.

Western countries sanctioned him as one of those responsible for the forced landing of the Ryanair flight at the Minsk airport in May 2021.
