Prosecutors accuse Lithuania of refugee rights violations

June 28, BPN. The Prosecutor General’s Office has filed a criminal case against the “Lithuanian side,” accusing it of gross violations of refugee rights, spokeswoman Anžalika Kurčak has said on social media.

She accused Lithuania of deportations and unjustified use of physical force against migrants.

Lithuanian officials deliberately denied them medical care, “which led to serious consequences, including the death of refugees,” Kurčak said.

The case has been opened under the criminal article on security of humanity, she added.

Thousands of migrants from the Middle East and Africa have been trying to reach the European Union via Belarus since 2021, despite opposition from Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

The EU has accused Minsk of organizing the border crisis in order to divert attention from reprisals and human rights violations in the country.
