Łukašenka confirms Wagner boss in Belarus
June 27, BPN. Alaksandr Łukašenka has confirmed that Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin is in Belarus, after several days of uncertainty about his whereabouts.
“Security guarantees have been provided, like he [Russian President Vladimir Putin] promised yesterday,” Łukašenka said, as quoted by the state media.
“I see that Prigozhin is already on that plane. Indeed, he is in Belarus today. As I promised, if you want to hang out here for a while, etc., we will help you. At your expense, of course” he said about Prigozhin.
A long-standing feud between Russian warlord Yevgeny Prigozhin and Russia’s military brass resulted in his mercenaries taking over a military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don and marching on Moscow over the weekend.
Official reports suggest that Łukašenka has brokered a deal allowing the Wagner boss to go into exile in Belarus because he eventually called off the uprising. The Kremlin said he will not be prosecuted.
