Foreign ministry accuses West of human rights abuses in a report

June 22, BPN. The Belarusian foreign ministry has released a report on human rights in the West, accusing the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and 20 other European nations of systemic abuses.

Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik said in the foreword that all western countries have a common set of problems, such as discrimination, crackdowns on peaceful protests and alternative media, and violations of migrants’ rights.

The foreign ministry accused Latvia, Lithuania and Poland of cruelty towards migrants trying to cross from Belarus.

It also accused the Lithuanian authorities of erasing the memory of the WWII-era Soviet “liberators.”

The report is the latest diplomatic stunt by the government in Belarus, where more than 35,000 people have been arrested and thousands beaten by police since the August 2020 vote, which the opposition and the West have denounced as rigged.
