Belarusian MP slams PACE’s resolution on displacement of Ukrainian kids
April 28, BPN. Belarusian MP Andrej Savinych has criticized yesterday’s resolution by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) as “criminal.”
In the resolution, PACE said the documented evidence of the forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia and its associated territories matches the international definition of genocide. It called on the parties to the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to support the prosecution of those responsible, including Alaksandr Łukašenka.
Savinych argued that attempts to put the blame for displacement on the Belarusian ruler were groundless.
He said Ukrainian soldiers hindered the evacuation of civilians, putting their lives in danger. “If Russian soldiers occupy a territory, they surely take these people out to a safe place. Calling this forced deportation and comparing the transportation of people from a combat zone with genocide means turning everything upside down,” the senior MP said, as quoted by the lower house’s press office.
