August 13, Pozirk. Four Belarusians were killed and 15 injured after a minibus carrying 19 tourists plunged into a ravine in Georgia’s Guria region on August 12, according to the Belarusian foreign ministry.
The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, driven by a Georgian citizen, reportedly suffered brake failure while descending from the Gomismta mountain resort. The driver survived the crash and is under investigation for dangerous driving resulting in death.
The injured passengers, including children, were taken to hospitals in Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri and Batumi. Two victims are in intensive care.
This is the second fatal crash involving Belarusian tourists in Georgia this summer. In July, a minibus carrying a group of tourists collided with a passenger car in Batumi. Two Belarusians, a 41-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, were killed.
