Investigators open probe into fatal Biełaruśkalij mine incident

June 12, Pozirk. The Investigative Committee has launched a criminal probe into alleged safety violations in mining or construction work that led to a death through negligence after a fatal incident on June 11 in Salihorsk, Minsk Region, the agency said.

The incident occurred at a mine operated by the 3rd mining unit of Biełaruśkalij potash giant at a depth of 620 meters, where a support beam collapsed during installation.

A 50-year-old mine support worker died in the incident, while two others were injured and hospitalized. A 34-year-old tractor operator suffered serious injuries, and an 18-year-old intern sustained leg injuries.

Investigators inspected the scene, documented evidence, interviewed witnesses and ordered a series of expert examinations. They also seized documentation, including records related to safety and labor protection.
