Opposition leader arrives on two-day visit in Czechia

June 10, Pozirk. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja arrived in Czechia yesterday evening and is expected to hold a series of top-level meetings today and tomorrow, her press office reports.

The visit’s agenda features a meeting with Czech President Petr Pavel, Senate Speaker Miloš Vystrčil, Foreign Minister Petr Macinka, Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda and the Belarusian expat community. 

The politician will also address the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, participate in a public discussion at the Václav Havel Library in Prague and present an award to Siarhiej Šupa, a prominent Belarusian translator and journalist who lives in Czechia.

Earlier this year, Cichanoŭskaja met Macinka at the Munich Security Conference. Czechia’s top diplomat reportedly reaffirmed his country’s readiness to further deepen cooperation with the Belarusian pro-democracy forces.
