Drone reportedly explodes in Latvia near Belarus border

May 23, Pozirk. An unmanned aerial vehicle crashed into Lake Drīdzis in Latvia’s Krāslava Municipality and detonated on hitting the water surface, locals reported to Latvian police on the morning of May 23.

The municipality borders on Belarus’ Brasłaŭ district in the Viciebsk region.

Police have found debris at the scene of what appears to be an unmanned aerial vehicle.

Latvian air defenses failed to detect the drone, according to the Latvian media.

Air raid alert was activated in neighboring Lithuania on May 20 and 21 in response to drones approaching from Belarus.
