Belarus, Oman agree to open embassies

October 7, Pozirk. Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and Alaksandar Łukašenka have agreed to exchange embassies at their meeting in Minsk, says a video posted by the Pul Pervogo Telegram channel linked to the Belarusian ruler’s press office.
“We have made a decision and we will definitely implement this plan,” Łukašenka said. “It is not because we are old friends, but because it is rather pragmatic. We are embarking on serious trade and economic cooperation, and the ambassadors will serve as the driving force for the development of our cooperation.”
Oman’s sultan arrived in Belarus yesterday and has already signed a memorandum of cooperation to build a $1.4-billion pulp and cardboard mill, a roadmap for bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Oman, as well as intergovernmental agreements on mutual visa abolition and international road transport.
Currently, the Belarusian ambassador to Egypt is accredited in Oman, while Oman’s ambassador to Russia is accredited in Belarus.
Minsk and Muscat established diplomatic relations in 1992.
