Regional peace impossible with Łukašenka in power – opposition politician

June 15, Pozirk. The Ukraine peace summit that opens today in Swiss Bürgenstock is an important step in consolidating the international community towards achieving peace, Valeryj Kavaleŭski of the opposition transition cabinet has said.
A sustainable peace would be possible only when “Belarus will no longer be a place from where a new aggression against Ukraine could start,” the cabinet’s press office quoted him as saying.
The politician linked regional peace and security to the democratic transition in Belarus, which should follow national interests, rather than “servicing Russia’s criminal schemes.”
All Russian military forces should permanently leave Belarusian territory, he stressed.
As long as Alaksandar Łukašenka remains in power, Minsk will continue provocations against its neighbours, while Russia takes over Belarus, the politician noted.
Representatives of 92 countries and eight international organizations are expected to participate in the two-day event in Switzerland this weekend. Neither Russia nor Belarus, which supports the Kremlin’s war on Ukraine, have been invited.
Belarusian officials dismissed the summit as meaningless without Moscow’s participation.
