June 4, Pozirk. The Supreme Court has upheld a three-year sentence imposed on Aleś Marčanka, a former Belsat TV cameraman, for association with the Poland-based television station labeled an extremist group in Belarus.
The cameraman was arrested on October 19, 2023 and given two consecutive 15-day jail terms for alleged minor offenses, including the distribution of extremist content, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) reported.
A district judge sentenced him to three years in prison on April 2.
Human rights groups declared him a political prisoner on March 28.
