People’s volunteer unit completes anti-saboteur training in Brest region
June 28, BPN. The territorial defense forces have held the final stage of a command and staff exercise in the Łuniniec district, Brest region, where they have been practicing martial law enforcement, the Belarusian defense ministry said yesterday.
“A people’s volunteer unit was formed. We focused on forming it, preparing for martial law tasks, and implementing them in the administrative territory,” it said.
During the exercise, the militia unit guarded and defended territorial defense facilities and combated “enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups,” as well as “illegal armed groups.”
A similar training camp is being held in the Salihorsk district, Minsk region, from June 27 to July 21 to reservists for tasks relating to their “military registration specialties and official functions.”
Last month, the lower house of the Belarusian National Assembly passed the bill “On the People’s Volunteer Corps,” authorizing members of volunteer units to use physical force and weapons.
