Minsk maintaining “contacts with Europe” – foreign minister

June 25, BPN. Belarus is preparing new measures to respond to the Western sanctions, Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik told Belarus 1 TV channel on June 24.

The decision will be taken “carefully and taking into account economic risks,” he said. “We are certainly not interested to shoot ourselves in the foot with these retaliatory solutions, especially economic ones, as the Western countries are doing.”

At the same time, Minsk “does not stop contacts with Europe,” the official noted. “They are, of course, very sporadic today. We work along the lines of business associations, keeping up contacts on a political level, as well as with think tanks.”

The minister also mentioned a “small number of politicians” willing to engage in dialogue.
