Zelensky dismisses ambassador to Belarus

June 22, BPN. Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Ihor Kyzym as ambassador to Belarus, days after lawmakers tabled a bill to break diplomatic ties with Alaksandr Łukašenka’s government

The edict published on the Ukrainian president’s website gives no reason for the decision.

Petro Poroshenko, the previous president, appointed Kyzym to the post in February 2017.

The ambassador viewed the regime as an accomplice in the Russian war and saw his mission in preventing a new offensive from Belarus, according to his recent remarks.

Kyiv recalled him “for consultation” on April 19, after Łukašenka met with Denis Pushilin, head of Ukraine’s breakaway region of Donetsk.
