Biden: Putin’s nuclear threats “real”
June 20, BPN. The threat of Russia using its tactical nuclear weapons is real, US President Joe Biden said during his June 19 trip to California.
“When I was out here about two years ago saying I worried about the Colorado River drying up, everybody looked at me like I was crazy,” he told journalists, referring to the extremely low water levels in the river. “They looked at me like when I said I worry about [Vladimir] Putin using tactical nuclear weapons. It’s real,” Reuters quoted Biden as saying.
Earlier, Biden referred to Putin’s statements about the start of nukes deployment in Belarus as “totally irresponsible.”
Biden’s remark comes days after Alaksandr Łukašenka said that he would be ready to use nuclear weapons “immediately” and without hesitation in response to aggression against his country.
On June 13, he said that a part of the Russian nuclear arsenal had been delivered from Russia to Belarus but admitted that the deployment was proceeding at a slow pace and Belarus has not yet received all “bombs and missiles.”
On June 16, Putin announced that the first nuclear warheads had arrived in Belarus.
