Defense ministry reports attempted attack on soldiers guarding state border

May 12, BPN. Late on May 11, a truck driver tried to attack a group of servicemen “using an explosive device made of pyrotechnic material,” the defense ministry’s press office reported.

The incident reportedly took place at a section of the M-5 highway linking Minsk and Homiel.

“The vehicle was blocked, the 51-year-old driver arrested and handed over to law enforcement officers,” the ministry said noting “signs of extremism” in the driver’s actions.

None of the soldiers currently reinforcing the protection of the state border were injured, the ministry added.
