Belarusian foreign minister to visit Russia on May 15-17

May 10, BPN. Belarusian Foreign Minister Siarhiej Alejnik will visit Russia next week, said Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry.

During the three-day official visit, Alejnik will meet with Federation Council Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko and State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, she said.

Alejnik will also meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov to discuss preparations for the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries’ board meeting to be held in Moscow later this year, Zakharova said.

She went on to say that “special attention” will be given to the Russian-Belarusian integration and interstate cooperation in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

According to her, the top diplomats would also coordinate approaches to international organizations, including the United Nations. Besides, they will discuss international and European security.

Alejnik and Lavrov are expected to sign a joint declaration on common Russian-Belarusian foreign policy priorities.
