Opposition leader discusses cooperation with Israeli envoy

May 10, BPN. Belarusian opposition leader Śviatłana Cichanoŭskaja has met with Hadas Wittenberg Silverstein, the new Israeli ambassador to Lithuania, to discuss cooperation of Belarusian pro-democracy forces with Israel.

She spoke about the plight of Belarusian political prisoners, Russia’s threat to station nuclear weapons in Belarus as well as Belarusian-Israeli cultural ties, including support of culture and book translations, Cichanoŭskaja’s aide Franak Viačorka told BPN.

Cichanoŭskaja met Yossef Levy, the previous Israel’s ambassador to Lithuania, in October 2021.

Israel supports Western sanctions against Belarusian authorities. Since late 2022, it downgraded its diplomatic representation in Minsk to the chargé d’affaires.
