Russia may stage May 9 provocation in Belarus – Ukrainian intelligence
May 8, BPN. Russia may be planning to carry out provocative acts against Belarus on the May 9 holiday celebrating victory over Nazi Germany, said Andrii Yusov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian defense ministry’s intelligence department.
Russia may organize a “false flag operation” to draw the Belarusian army into its war against Ukraine, he told Ukrainian television.
Yusov said that “the occupiers have been using these acts of provocation since 2014, and it is possible that we will see them now.”
“No-one in Ukraine or the outside world will believe these shows anymore. But this does not mean that there will be no provocation,” he added.
Earlier this month, the Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB) forecasted escalation and foreign interference. Alaksandr Łukašenka ordered officials to strengthen border security but at the same time denied any threat of attack.
