More saboteurs infiltrating Belarus – Łukašenka
May 2, BPN. The situation around Belarus “remains difficult” as NATO continues military buildup, Alaksandr Łukašenka has told security and law enforcement officials at a conference on border security.
He noted a rise in “provocations” at the Belarusian border. Intelligence reports indicate “a significant aggravation of the operational situation,” said Ivan Tertel, head of the Committee for State Security (KGB).
The government and “the power bloc” should take serious measures “to prevent all kinds of saboteurs from infiltrating Belarus,” Łukašenka’s press office quoted him as saying.
Łukašenka had repeatedly claimed that Ukraine and NATO were planning to attack Belarus. On April 28, he toned down his rhetoric during a trip to Vietka, Homiel region. “No one is going to attack us, including the Ukrainians,” he said.
