Europe’s parliamentary assembly links Łukašenka to displacement of Ukrainian kids

The documented evidence of the forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia and its associated territories matches the international definition of genocide, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) said in a resolution, according to a news report released by the international body on April 27.

“This decision will substantially help our global work to hold Russia and its officials, including the head of the terrorist state, accountable specifically for genocide,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a daily video address to the nation.

The assembly calls on the parties to the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to support the prosecution of those responsible, including Alaksandr Łukašenka, reads the provisional version of the resolution published on the PACE website.

“Łukašenka has been recognized as involved in the genocide of Ukrainians!” a member of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE, MP Oleksii Honcharenko, said on the Telegram messaging app.

“We believe that there is every reason to issue an arrest warrant for Łukašenka. And we hope that the relevant decision will be made by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court,” Belarusian opposition politician Pavieł Łatuška said on YouTube.

Last month, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin, accusing him of the alleged war crime of deportation of children from Ukraine. It also issued an arrest warrant for Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia’s commissioner for children’s rights.
