Foreign ministry accuses Poland of training “fighting squads” against Belarus

April 13, BPN. Minsk has serious fears of aggressive actions from Warsaw, said Anatol Hłaz, a spokesperson for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He accused the Polish government of “financing extremists” and “preparing certain fighting squads against the Belarusian population,” describing its policy as “fanatical, lacking logic and rationality.”

Poland wants to hide information about its armed forces from Belarus, Hłaz added, noting the recent decision by the Polish Council of Ministers to suspend cooperation with Belarus under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).

“The Polish government is deliberately destroying the last legal pillars of the European security system,” Hłaz said. Warsaw needs to reconsider this decision and return to “full and fair implementation” of the CFE Treaty, he stressed.

Signed in the last years of the Cold War, the CFE Treaty is designed to ensure transparency of conventional weapons and armed forces in Europe.
