Belarus is ready to assist in restoring power supply at the Chernobyl NPP as soon as possible – Ministry of Energy

March 10, BPN. The Belarusian side is ready to assist in restoring power supply at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the press service of the Ministry of Energy reported.

“The necessary opportunities are technically available and organizational issues are currently being worked out. The power supply can be provided as soon as possible,” the message says.

At a meeting with the security services on March 10, Aliaksandr Lukašenka instructed Belarusian experts to ensure the power supply at the Chernobyl NPP.

He said that president Vladimir Putin informed him yesterday evening of the situation in the NPP area.

Chernobyl NPP and all nuclear facilities of the exclusion zone were left with no power supply due to the disconnection of the 750 kV high-voltage line of the Chernobyl NPP – Kyivska substation damaged by the Russian troops, the national energy company Ukrenergo reported on March 9.

Emergency diesel generators were turned on at the site to power safety systems. The diesel fuel supply is sufficient for 48 hours in case of failure-free operation.

On March 8, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced that the IAEA had stopped receiving remotely transmitted data from safety monitoring systems at the Chernobyl NPP occupied by Russian troops.
