State Border Committee claims second violation of Belarusian airspace by Latvia in three days
February 10, BPN. Today, around 12.20 pm, “another fact of violation of Belarusian state border was recorded,” the Telegram channel of the State Border Committee reports.
“The Latvian AgustaWestland helicopter flew into the Belarusian territory near the village of Dumaryški in Braslaŭ district (Viciebsk region – BPN) up to 400 meters and returned back to Latvia,” reads the report.
According to the ministry, such incidents “have recently become more frequent and can be regarded as provocative actions of neighbouring countries in order to create tensions on the border. “This is the fourth incident over the past three months, associated with violations of airspace of the Republic of Belarus,” the State Border Committee said.
As reported, on February 8, Belarusian State Border Committee claimed a violation of the country’s airspace from Latvia by an Antonov-2 light aircraft, which had been detected in the morning of the same day. It was noted that the aircraft flew 300 meters into the Belarusian territory, circled the Urbany checkpoint, and then returned to Latvia.
Latvian National Armed Forces refuted the airspace violation at that time. “The Air Force, continuing to support the State Border Guard in preventing illegal border crossings, made a planned flight over the Latvian-Belarusian border on An-2 aircraft. Latvian Air Force has been accused by Belarus Border Guard with breaching its airspace, but the GPS data prove that there was no violation,” said the Twitter account of Latvian Armed Forces.
