About 17,600 observers accredited for the constitutional referendum, with only one representing the opposition party
February 8, BPN. As of February 7, 17,642 observers were accredited for the constitutional referendum, according to the Central Election Commission (CEC).
A total of 13,307 representatives of public organizations, including trade unions from the pro-governmental Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (4,017), Belarusian Republican Youth Union (2,132), Belaja Rus (2,041), the Belarusian Union of Women (1,855), the Belarusian Public Association of Veterans (1,618), the Belarusian Peace Foundation (1,152), and other associations (492) were permitted to observe the referendum.
2,515 citizens nominated by application and 1,160 representatives of labour collectives were accredited as observers.
660 accredited observers represent political parties, including 520 members of the Communist Party of Belarus, 38 of the Republican Party of Labour and Justice, 33 of the Social Democratic Party of Popular Accord, 26 of the Belarusian Agrarian Party, 32 of the Belarusian Social Sports Party, 9 of the Liberal Democratic Party, and 1 of the Belarusian Patriotic Party. Only one opposition member from the United Civic Party (UCP) was admitted as an observer.
As reported, not a single representative of the opposition parties made it to the precinct and territorial commissions.
