Journalist Dzianis Ivašyn put back in the solitary confinement
December 25. Journalist Dzianis Ivašyn was placed in the solitary confinement again. His wife reported on social media that the package for him was rejected.
Volha Ivašyna does not know why her husband was placed in the solitary confinement and for how long. She believes that he would stay there for all the holidays.
Ivašyn was detained in March 2021. He was accused of interfering in the work of an internal affairs officer. Later, the charge was reclassified as “treason against the state”, which carries a sentence of up to 15 years’ imprisonment.
The journalist collaborated with the newspaper “Novy Čas”. His most recent piece was an investigation of former Ukrainian Berkut special forces’ members, who joined the Belarusian security forces and took part in the crackdown of the protests in 2020.
Human rights defenders recognized Ivašyn as a political prisoner.
