Belarus records warmer-than-average August – weather service

September 4, Pozirk. Last month’s temperatures in Belarus averaged out at 18.4 degrees Celsius, 0.4 C above the long-term average of 18 C, the Biełhidramiet weather service said in its monthly report.

Such temperature spikes are typically observed once every three years. The hottest August on record was in 2010, when the average temperature reached 20.8 C, while the coldest was in 1987, at 14.3 C. Last year, August was considerably cooler, with an average temperature of 17.1 C.

Daytime temperatures varied widely last month. During hot spells in the first half of August, temperatures in southern Belarus exceeded 35 C. On other days, they ranged from 19 C to 24 C.

The highest temperature, 40.3 C, was recorded in Mazyr, Homiel region, on August 6, setting a new record. The previous August record was at 38.9 C in Homiel in 2010.
