French embassy closes its media library in Minsk

August 24, Pozirk. The French embassy in Minsk has closed its media library, which had operated at the Pushkin Library for 30 years.

The embassy described the media library as a “quite usual project” that “nevertheless generated enough fear to be terminated.”

The media library promoted the French language and culture through musical and philosophical gatherings, film screenings, board games and exhibitions.

The embassy expressed hope that the closure is temporary.

Earlier, France’s former Chargé d’ffaires Ludovic Royer expressed regret over the imminent closure, stressing that it was taking place as “our efforts toward dialogue are taking shape.” He said the two countries faced the enormous task of breaking the deadlock in their relations.Top of Form
