Journalist Hłuškoŭ free after completing his sentence

August 23, Pozirk. Jaŭhien Hłuškoŭ, a Mahiloŭ-based journalist convicted of extremism, has been released after fully serving his three-year term, a source has told Pozirk.

Hłuškoŭ was hospitalized with trophic ulcer on returning to Mahiloŭ, according to the source. He was also in hospital before his release. He served his sentence at Prison No. 4 in Mahiloŭ and Penal Colony No.2 in Babrujsk.

The cameraman was arrested on January 4, 2024 and sentenced to three years in prison on July 31 the same year in connection with his work for 6TV.by, a YouTube news channel labeled by the government an extremist group.

Another 6TV.by journalist, Aleś Sabaleŭski, was arrested on December 12, 2023 and given four years in prison. He is still serving his sentence.

Most journalists associated with 6TV.by fled the country for fear of persecution.

Mahiloŭ-based journalists sentenced to prison
