Drummer of 2020 protests Sančuk evacuated from Belarus — activist

August 3, Pozirk. Former designated political prisoner Alaksiej Sančuk and his family have been evacuated from Belarus to another country, activist Andrej Stryžak of the BELAID initiative said on Telegram.

Sančuk, who is widely known for marching drummers’ performances during the 2020 postelection protests, had fully served his six-year prison sentence and was released last month. However, the authorities planned to place him under preventive supervision, which implies severe restrictions, Stryžak said, explaining the evacuation.

Police arrested the Minsk musician in November 2020 during a rehearsal with other drummers. He was beaten during the arrest and jailed for 15 days. Later, he was convicted of participating in protests and rioting.

Rights groups name eight new political prisoners
