Belarus reports sharp rise in unprofitable businesses

July 22, Pozirk. The share of unprofitable economic entities, excluding small businesses, increased by 3.9 percentage points to 22.6 percent in January-May, according to Pozirk’s analysis of the National Statistics Committee’s (Biełstat) data.

The trend was observed in all regions and the city of Minsk:

  • Brest region – a rise of 2.3 percentage points to 19.7 percent
  • Viciebsk region – 3.6 pp to 17.8 percent
  • Homiel region – 5.8 pp to 20.2 percent
  • Hrodna region – 4.5 pp to 20.8 percent
  • Minsk region – 7.4 pp to 23.4 percent
  • Mahiloŭ region – 3.5 pp to 20.1 percent
  • Minsk – 2.7 pp to 27.5 percent

The average return on sales of the country’s entities fell by 0.3 percentage point to 6.5 percent in this period.
