Hrodna, Minsk regions hit by windstorms

July 2, Pozirk. Windstorms swept through the Hrodna and Minsk regions on July 1, damaging buildings and disrupting traffic, reported the emergency management ministry.

In the Hrodna region, fallen trees blocked roadways in nine districts and the city of Hrodna, with emergency crews dispatched to clear them. In the Minsk region, emergency workers were deployed three times to remove toppled trees in the Valožyn district and in Maladziečna.

A period of unusually hot weather that began in Belarus in late June is expected to end on July 2 with showers and a noticeable drop in temperature.

On June 29, Belarus reported its highest-ever temperature in the 145-year history of accurate meteorological observations, with the new record of 40.4C registered in the southern city of Pinsk.

The air warmed up to 37.1 degrees Celsius in Kobryn, Brest region, on July 1, setting the all-time high for this date in Belarus.
