Belarus’ growth accelerates to 0.9 percent in January-May

June 17, Pozirk. Belarus’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 0.9 percent in the first five months after contracting during the first three months, the National Statistics Committee (Biełstat) reported.
The statistics agency reported an industrial output decline of 1.4 percent and agricultural production growth of 4.3 percent in that period.
Retail trade reportedly rose by 7.1 percent and freight transportation by 1.1 percent in the first five months of 2026 against the same period of 2025.
GDP shrank by 1.2 percent in January, by 1.2 percent in the first two months and by 0.4 percent in the first three months and grew by 0.2 percent in the first four months, Biełstat said.
Last year, Belarus’ economy reportedly grew by 1.3 percent, whereas the government’s target was set at 4.1 percent.
Under the government’s Social and Economic Development Forecast for 2026, the nation’s GDP is to grow by 2.8 percent this year.
The International Monetary Fund forecast Belarus’ economic growth at 1.4 percent in 2026, while the Eurasian Development Bank projected 1.8-percent economic growth. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development lowered its 2026 growth forecast for Belarus to 1.3 percent in its recent review.
