May 24, Pozirk. Alaksandar Łukašenka’s press office has reported that the Belarusian ruler held a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron “at the initiative of the French side.”
The two discussed “regional issues and Belarus’ relations with the EU and France,” the statement said.
Łukašenka has not communicated with Macron since their phone call on February 26, 2022, two days after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
France and the EU do not recognize Łukašenka as Belarus’ legitimate president. Belarus has designated France an unfriendly state.
Belarus is holding at least seven French nationals in prison.
